About
From small acorns grow…
St. Joseph’s Food Bank is the official registered food bank for Mission, BC. We are a member of Food Bank BC and registered as a service provider by Food Banks Canada. St. Joseph’s Food Bank is supported by community members, business and service organizations as well as the Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver and the District of Mission.
The St. Joseph’s Food Bank began as the brain child of Father Gary Gordon in 1990 to help people and families in need. What started as a goodwill gesture mushroomed into an operation with 6 volunteers within 6 years. By 2008 it became obvious that the St. Joseph’s Parish church basement was no longer practical and new space was needed.
December 2009 the Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver made space on their property available for the construction of a new and needed dedicated food bank building to better serve the community. On October 31, 2015, the new St. Joseph’s Food Bank Building opened at 32550 7th Ave. in Mission on the southeast corner of St. Joseph’s Parish Church.
Growing Need. Growing Response.
In March 2020, 860 unique individuals relied on our Food Bank for bi-weekly food support. By March 2025, that number had grown to 1,848 unique individuals. This represents a 115% increase in just five years, highlighting the growing reality of food insecurity in our community and the rising number of people who depend on this support to meet their basic needs.
Together, we can fill the gap.

We supply and deliver emergency hampers and provide food every day for homeless street distribution. These deliveries are done by St. Joseph’s Food Bank on Monday, Saturday and Sunday, and by UGM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The food that is distributed daily to the homeless is supplied by Save-On-Foods (Deli) as part of the no waste program. Excess non-human perishable food is distributed daily to local farmers and used as animal feed.
In April 2020 the Mission Food Bank Society was set up to support the efforts of St. Joseph’s Food Bank in its work to raise awareness and provide financial support for the operating cost of St. Joseph’s Food Bank.
Our dedicated team of caring volunteers drives our passion to help those in need. Our goal is to eliminate barriers and ensure that all residents of Mission and Area have consistent access to healthy, fresh, and nutritious food.
