Long-awaited St. Joseph’s Food Bank building to open

After years of planning, a standalone facility for the long-established St. Joseph’s Food Bank will officially open Saturday.

For Ron Leger, the volunteer who has championed the project, this has been a long time coming. However, he feels the end product is even better than he could have expected, and says it will serve the community well for many years to come.

Politicians, Abby Heat come together to help food bank

A ticket-selling competition between politicians will help raise money for St. Joseph’s Food Bank.

Starting this weekend, and running each Saturday and Sunday until April 7, MLAs Randy Hawes, Marc Dalton, Green Party of BC candidate Aird Flavelle, BC Liberal candidate Simon Gibson, BC NDP candidates Mike Bocking and Preet Rai, plus Mission Mayor Ted Adlem will be working the crowds at a number of locations locally to sell Abbotsford Heat tickets.

The AHL club has donated the tickets for the April 12 game to St. Joseph’s for this fundraising event. Proceeds will go towards ongoing construction of the Seventh Avenue building.

“This is a great opportunity to support the St. Joseph’s Food Bank in a meaningful way and have some fun, too,” said Ron Leger, volunteer building project manager. “Our shared goal is straightforward at St. Joseph’s Food Bank: feed the needs of those without. Mission is a caring community. This event is another opportunity for each of us to show we care and truly make a difference.”
