Mission’s St. Joseph’s Food Bank has received a $15,000 provincial grant which will be put towards the purchase of a walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler for its new facility.
The cheque was presented to St. Joseph’s Food Bank by Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton.
“St. Joseph’s Food Bank provides a strong and needed benefit to our community and has for many years,” said Dalton. “I can’t say enough to thank the core of volunteers who provide this caring service.”
Ron Leger, a local accountant and volunteer leader at St. Joseph’s Food Bank since 1996, said $29,000 has now been raised and $9,000 in further funds are still needed to buy both the walk-in freezer and the walk-in cooler, totalling $38,000.
“This grant is a large move forward. The request for funding of the St. Joseph’s Food Bank building started seven years ago. The amount raised to date has exceeded $500,000. Each contribution has been unexpected, and I see them as a gift from the heart, from those who listen and care,” said Leger.
John Poston, volunteer manager of St. Joseph’s, said the “walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler will enable the food bank to provide more storage and accessibility to seasonal and perishable items.”
The Food Bank building is complete and operational. Total cost a little over $500,000 which God provided entirely for.
I have $13,000 left over to go towards a walk in Cooler and Freezer to complete the building. The cost is around $38,000 therefore the Food Bank is short $25,000.
If you feel you can help in any way, please make your cheque payable to “St Joseph’s Parish” it can be sent to the address listed below.
Thank you for your generous support in the past.

As of today, Thursday, April 21st at 9 a.m., St. Joseph’s Food Bank is ready to serve as a fully functional food distribution centre for those in need here in Mission. This is another important step forward, ~community helping community !
Last October the opening of the new building was celebrated while awaiting completion of some required interior needs.
Ron Leger, a local accountant and volunteer leader at St.Joseph’s Food Bank since 1996 says says next steps include further fundraising towards the purchase of a walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer to increase capacity to receive product to distribute and share with those in need. He adds he is hopeful those donations will soon make this possible adding, Mission has been most supportive of St. Joseph’s Food Bank with broad based, community support ~ fund raising initiatives and corporate support to help the food bank meet “real” needs. With great pride, Ron Leger, himself a volunteer, says St. Joseph’s Food Bank is entirely operated by a dedicated and caring team of volunteers who serve in many areas to ensure this community support and help.
This is another time to say ‘THANKS’ to all the volunteers and those who donate & support St. Joseph’s Food Bank in Mission.
